Shvydkoy: Official dates will be announced after the conclusion of military operations. Artist who will represent Russia still under wraps.

Mikhail Shvydkoy has addressed the current status of the second (modern) Intervision Song Contest in an interview with Ria.ru, confirming that despite the volatile military and political climate in the Middle East, the project remains on the agenda. In his recent remarks, Shvydkoy acknowledged the severity of the ongoing regional conflict, describing a situation of "total war" that affects multiple nations, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, where American military forces are stationed. He noted that such a climate is naturally concerning and requires constant monitoring.

Despite these significant challenges, Shvydkoy confirmed that Russia remains in continuous dialogue with the Saudi government and its Ministry of Culture regarding the event’s organization. He emphasized that, despite the instability, the contest continues to attract interest from performers representing a wide variety of countries. Shvydkoy expressed hope that the military conflict will be resolved by the autumn, the time frame currently envisioned for the competition, thereby allowing for a successful event. He further pointed to Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum as a special guest, which he views as a signal of a positive perspective for the partnership.

Having served as the host for the inaugural "Intervision" contest, Russia is prepared to offer its Saudi colleagues methodological and organizational support. Shvydkoy stressed that the second iteration of any annual event is pivotal to its long-term success, and it is vital that the upcoming contest maintains the high standard set by the bright and colorful debut held in Moscow.

Regarding the timeline, Shvydkoy stated that the announcement of official dates is currently on hold. He explained that a decision will be reached only when active military operations conclude and a sense of stability returns to the region. Additionally, the final schedule is dependent on the internal budgetary processes of the Saudi government, as they are currently determining the funds to be allocated for the event.

Shvydkoy also clarified the process for selecting the Russian entry, noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not interfere in the content or artistic direction of the event. The responsibility lies with the "Fond 'Naslediye Iskusstva'" (Art Heritage Foundation), which managed the first competition and is now working directly with Saudi organizers to determine the artist who will represent Russia. He expressed confidence in the wealth of talented performers in Russia who are capable of participating in such a competition.
