Brazil Intervision 2025: Luciano Calazans & Tais Nader, A Family Duo

Brazil marked its debut at the International Music Contest "Intervision 2025" with a submission that prioritized cultural depth and personal unity: the family-and-creative-duo Luciano Calazans & Tais Nader. The celebrated couple brought decades of professional experience to the Moscow stage, aiming to showcase Brazil's vibrant musical heart.

The Road to Intervision and Musical Pedigree

The selection of Luciano Calazans and Tais Nader was a deliberate choice by the contest organizers, who tasked the duo with representing the nation not just as musicians, but as "bearers of the idea of unity and traditional values."

Luciano Calazans entered the contest as a musical giant in Brazil. A renowned composer, arranger, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist, he won a Latin Grammy Award in 2013 for Músicas para Cinema e TV ("Music for Cinema and Television"). His extensive collaborations feature top Brazilian artists like Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, as well as international figures such as Angélique Kidjo and will.i.am.

Tais Nader is a respected singer, composer, and cultural figure with a career spanning over 20 years. Her achievements include winning the Educadora FM festival in the “Best Performer” category and being featured in The New York Times for a collaborative work.

The Contest Performance and Theme

For the competition, the duo performed an original Portuguese composition titled "Pipoca com Amor" ("Popcorn with Love"). The song, written by Tais Nader and produced by Luciano Calazans, tells the inspiring story of a simple woman named Maria, who "works hard every day but always finds time to... dream." The performance was a vibrant celebration of Brazilian popular music and cultural resilience.

The duo's stated intention, as communicated through the contest's organizers, was to demonstrate the "strength of creative and personal union" and leverage their high artistic and moral credibility to deliver a sophisticated, unifying message on the international stage.

Life After Intervision

Despite the high expectations and the duo’s acclaimed background, Brazil struggled to connect with the international jury. Luciano Calazans & Tais Nader finished in last place (23rd) out of the 23 competing countries, receiving 164 points from the international jury. Their participation successfully introduced their unique blend of acclaimed Brazilian music and personal harmony to a new global audience.
